Scholarships for abused women

I believe this is an excellent organization that provides a great opportunity for battered women to escape the cycle of violence and abuse. Education is critical for both them and their families.

clipped from www.philanthropyjournal.org Scholarship program for abuse survivors now a nonprofit WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Women's Independence Scholarship Program, Inc., which the mission of reducing the effects of domestic violence by offering access to higher education, began operating as a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization on July 1. Known as WISP, the program began as part of The Sunshine Lady Foundation in 1999 and has provided over $16 million in scholarships to more than 2,000 women survivors of intimate partner abuse. Doris Buffett, founder and president of The Sunshine Lady Foundation, announced in December 2007 her intention to endow WISP as an independent nonprofit.

I am watching CSPAN and they are talking about using the internet to do social media marketing. i believe it will take off in less than a year and it is the new big thing. i am excited to be in on one of the biggest thing going on now. it is very exciting following a few people who are very successful and have a huge following.

Wondering when mainstream media will get serious about the environment

How long and how much destruction will come before the media really does get serious about the environment and actually tell the truth.How many 500 year floods in a row do we need to have before we admit our weather patterns are changing.  First there was the northeast flood and now this devastating midwest flood. 

It is painful to watch the lack of preparedness and decay of our road, bridges, levees and dams.  We really are better than that.
